afternoon and evacuations were lifted last night. two minor injuries have been reported, at least three structures have been burned and the fire has covered 6,000 a.. two fires are burning along for highway 20. one is called the y fire in the other is called walker fire. >> many of the firefighters who were here have spent much of the night out on the lines trying to knock down the lines. firefighters take advantage of cooler temperatures and less went to try to get around the fire. many people from spring valley were forced to leave their home sunday evening. the danger has passed their homes because the fire has moved away but the danger continues because the fire continues to burn. they're not under control and they're not even fully contained. firefighters are obviously fighting keith and dry weather.

firefighters will be working hard and they will try to knock the fire down and maybe we can reduce the risk appear. we have been told that these fires are an indication of what is coming in the fire season. it has been a very dry season so far but these are the first big fires in the state's fire operations officer of has told us that this might be an indication of what is to come >> some of the evacuees got out of the area at the last minute as the flames were moving in >> 5 fire surrounding s so at that point you could not see anything. everything was black and dark and it was like, you could not even see the yellow lines on the road. >> of the evacuees were allowed back in spring valley. there were still some evacuations in the wilber hot

springs area >> staying hot and dry there and in fact, the forecast is for those temperatures to be as high as 109 degrees. in the morning they can get away with things being fairly common and the breeze will pick up throughout the day. temperatures around the bay area will warm up once again, a couple of showers popping up over the sierra nevada, otherwise, 100 degrees in livermore, 95 degrees in concord. these temperatures are a little bit cooler and more cooling is on the way.

>> no major hot spots star you off with this morning, just the overnight roadwork where we always see it in the eastbound lanes of highway 4 in pittsburgh. you can get back on to the freeway but there is slowing in that area. traffic is nice and white heading out of marin into san francisco. overnight road work in both directions of the dumbarton bridge should wrap up by 5:00. back out towards the east bay, the nimitz in oakland, this camera is looking good towards downtown oakland. >> it has been a violent 24 hours in san jose. two shootings in a stabbing

with two victims dead and another with life-threatening wounds. in san jose police are trying to determine if any of the incidents were gang-related. >> let's start with the deadly stabbing that after around 630 monday evening. according to police, a woman's body was found on the sidewalk with at least one stab wound, a small samurai sword was found next order body. she was announced debt at the scene and no arrests were made. she was apparently well known homeless woman in the area. police don't know if it was related to a deadly shooting earlier in the day when demand was down with a fatal gunshot wound on charles street just off of oakland road. police say daytime shootings do

not happen often >> generally things like this tend to happen at night or in the dark. when it does happen broad daylight is very concerning because that is a bold suspect who doesn't care how many people are around or to seize him order. >> the deadly shooting and stabbing were the 25th and 26 san jose homicides of the year. according to police that is the same number as this time last year. a second shooting happened around 5 mi. away from the first shooting in a residential neighborhood. it was a person who was hit by gunfire and what police believe was a drive-by shooting and they're looking into the possibility of might have been gang-related. police do not believe that those two shootings were connected. >> two teenagers are facing felony charges after crashing

into a saratoga home. investigators say they were drag racing when they both lost control on spelling road at prospect. the cars took out a guard rail and hit a house and then they ended up on top of the other and both of them sticking out of the second house that they hit. no one in the homes were hurt. >> the traffic and its leaders believe they were going at a minimum of 60 m.p.h., upwards of 80 m.p.h.. >> if someone was walking in here that would be dead >> 0219 year-old drivers are friends that are being treated for what life-threatening injuries. >> investigators still cannot get to the site connected to last week's refinery fire. that specific area is still considered unsafe. the san francisco chronicle quoted sources as saying chevron inspectors determine last year that the 8 in. pipe might need

to be replaced but they later decided it would be good for another five years. in martinas, a shell oil refinery was the scene of a small fire yesterday. the county briefly issued a health advisory as a precaution but crews put out the flames in just a few minutes and the causes under investigation >> a new poll suggests that paul ryan has some work ahead to win over the american public. just 39% of u.s. voters surveyed said he is an excellent or pretty good running mate. 45 percent told usa today gallup poll that the choice is fair or poor. those are the lowest numbers for a vice-presidential pick since george bush chose dan quayle back in 1988. paul ryan hit the campaign trail without romney for the first time yesterday.

russia today. it struck about 100 mi. off the coast of an island. no reports of any injuries or damages >> california came up nearly a half billion dollars below budget projections in july. the comptroller released a report yesterday saying several areas came up short including sales tax spending appeared on track and taxes came in above projections. a state bill to close the corporate tax loophole is moving forward. it would eliminate a $1 billion tax break for out-of-state corporations and would use revenue to reduce college tuition in california. >> just call it another reason to love chocolate.

>> an elderly man who drove more than 7 mi. in the wrong direction has lost his license. this dangerous situation happened earlier this year in australia. surveillance video captured the man's vehicle going the wrong direction along a busy motorway. an attorney for the 81 year-old man said he had unknowingly suffered a stroke which could have cost him a lot of confusion. >> how scary is that for him and all the other motorists >> it looks like a major highway and he as a trailer.

>> let's check the weather, it is a little bit hot here. >> we have been dealing with fires in parts of northern california but those will continue to burn and the conditions are only slightly improving over the next few days. we have patchy fog with some thick fog out at the beaches. it looks like we are in for some cooling weather over the next few days. a lot of seventies inside the bay and '60s that the coastline. you will notice some cooling as you head into the next couple of days, just a few degrees each day. no reports of delays sfo and mostly sunny as we head into the afternoon. partly cloudy skies in chicago

and denver. around the bay area we are looking at 99 degrees in morgan hill. as you head to the east bay, temperatures as high as 100 degrees. it looks like the next couple of days, we will watch the temperatures drop off with a little stronger sea breeze. still on a hot side. a little monsoon moisture starting to slide away. >> we're just getting word of a new accident coming in east bound 24 in orinda. winds are blocked coming out of the caldecott tunnel. we will let you know if it will become a bigger problem. here is a live look at 101 near the trimble exit. a northbound and southbound 101

are both moving fine this morning through san jose. here's a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. not many delays at all and it looks great heading towards the a gates. pretty much all the alternate bridges are a similar story so we still don't see any major hot spots out there. we're seeing some areas overnight roadwork, eastbound lanes of highway four are completely shut down so you can use the on ramp to get back onto the freeway. it is scheduled to wrap up by about 530 this morning. the dumbarton bridge both directions you'll find lanes blocked on highway 84 and look at this, you can really see the fog super thick across the deck of the golden gate bridge. mass transit, no issues at all.
